What's New in CrystalMaker 4.0?
Annotation

CrystalMaker 4.0 allows you to annotate plots, displaying multi-line text boxes with lines and arrows. You can specify text styles, fonts and colours and easily edit your text.

To create a new text box:

  1. Select the text tool from the toolbar (this is the button with the "T" icon).
  2. Click at the position in the graphics window where you wish your text box to appear.
  3. The Add Annotation dialog appears letting you enter text, define a text style and add an arrow or line.

To edit an existing text box:

  1. Either: click on the tex tbox with the text tool, to display the Add Annotation dialog.
  2. Or: double-click on the text box with the arrow tool.

To move a text box or arrow:

  1. Click and drag the text box with the arrow tool.
  2. To change the position of the line or arrow associated with a text box, click the end of the line, or the arrow tip so that a square control handle appears; then drag the handle to a new position.

To delete a text box:

  1. Edit the text box using the Add Annotation dialog and click the Delete Textbox button.

The Add Annotation text box lets you edit text and choose a font, size, text style and colour. Text boxes can have a transparent or opaque background, and you can have a solid frame in the foreground (text) colour. You can attach a line to the text box - and there is a choice of "anchor" points; at the other end of the line you can display an arrowhead, if you wish.

It is possible for a text box to have multiple lines of text - but please note that the text boxes do not automatically wrap text; you must explicitly enter carriage returns (by pressing the return key on your keyboard) when entering the text into the dialog's Edit Text field.

The positions of text boxes and associated lines/arrows are defined in a relative sense to the rest of the graphics window. This means that text boxes maintain their correct relative positions when the graphics window is resized or when you copy or print graphics at high resolution.

Special note for users upgrading from CrystalMaker 3.1, or earlier: the Text tool occupies the position on the toolbar formerly held by the Label Atoms tool. To label atoms, either use the Info Window (allows labelling of groups of atoms by site or element), or select individual atoms using the arrow or other selection tools, then choose the Selection > Show Label command. To hide existing atom labels, select the labelled atoms, then choose the Selection > Hide Label command.
